Tutte le aste / Mobili, Design & Specchi / Writing table - Wood - drop-front desk
Fascinating and refined roll-top desk (bureau de pente / bureau à cylindre) in Louis XV style, richly crafted with high-quality cabinetmaking techniques. The piece stands out for its splendid burr veneer and geometric inlay in diamond motifs with contrasting grains (butterfly wing), made from precious wood species. The top features a shaped fall-front that opens to reveal an interior compartment (scarabattolo) ideal for storing documents and small objects. The desk rests on four elegant cabriole legs, typical of the period, enhanced at the front knees by decorative appliques in gilded or bronzed/brunited bronze with floral motifs. A piece of furniture of great class, perfect for adding a touch of French classicism to a study or an elegant drawing room. General good condition with normal signs of wear and age (please study the photos carefully for details of patina and surface). Structurally solid. Country of origin: France / Italy. The desk is located in Rome, so it must be collected in Rome. In order to be well protected, please procure packing materials such as double-layer bubble wrap, reinforcement cartons, and tape. I am available to arrange possible shipping (shipping and packaging costs to be agreed separately).
